The Gloucestershire Warwickshire Steam Railway

There is a romance to railway travel, especially when the engine is steam driven. The Gloucestershire Warwickshire Steam Railway is a volunteer-run heritage railway operating a variety of steam and diesel engines as well as self-propelled cars. They are in the process of rehabilitating several others and extending the current 23-kilometre line by another 10 kilometres. Our train, pulled by a 1947 steam locomotive built at the beginning of the end of the age steam, consisting of vintage 1st-, 2nd-, and 3rd-class rail carriages, combined with the period stations, the railway staff uniforms, and the pastoral landscapes evoked a little of the romance of the golden age of steam. It was a pleasant journey, enhanced by a stop at the Winchcombe station and a walk into town to reacquaint ourselves with this lovely Cotswold town before returning to our train and Cheltenham.
