Norfolk Coast 1 Before heading for Norfolk, we visited Crowland with its strange triangular bridge sitting high and dry, like some medieval monument in the middle of the town. In actuality, the streams it once crossed were diverted long ago. Castle Rising, the beach near Snettisham, Titchwell, Burnham Deepdale, and Thornham were stops on our route to Wells-Next-The-Sea. Where we had access to the coast, we found steep shingle beaches, lovely and pleasant to sit but strenuous walking. Away from the coast, red tile roofs cover cottage walls made of knapped flint or white washed giving the villages and towns a distinctive Norfolk appearance and the tidy homes were surrounded by well tended, sometimes spectacular flower gardens. We stopped at the Thornham Deli for coffee on our way by and were impressed enough by the food and the lovely flint buildings of the village to return for lunch and to explore the village another day.
