Bowie - Rockhound State Park: One of Sheila's ancestors had lived in the small town of Bowie. Sadly, it had seen much better days. Many of the homes and businesses were abandoned, derelict, or burned out, but the cemetery, church, and many of the homes were well maintained and quite lovely. I could not help but admire the residents struggling to keep the town alive. Harsh, semiarid to arid landscapes were broken by Stein’s ghost town, the city of Demming, and a few irrigated farms on our route to our camp at Rockhound State Park.
