The central Valley: Ordered and precise, the vegetable fields, flowering nut orchards, and the ripening lemon and orange  groves of the San Juaquin Valley can be colorful, but I preferred the relaxed, pastoral landscapes of the Coast Mountain and Sierra Nevada foothills.
Crossing the Mokelumne River in the northern most San Juaquin Valley near the San Jauqin-Sacramento Delta. Flowering almond orchards southeast of Modesto. Millerton Lake reservoir in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada is a welcome retreat from the sprawl of Clovis and Fresno just south. The rolling pasture and picturesque barn of a ranch near Millerton Lake contrast with the ordered precision of fields and orchards in the valley. The lush green of the hills will probably fade to golden brown as the dry season sets in. Farm yard in the orchard lands northeast of Fresno. The small town of Centerville was established 1854 on lowlands of the Kings River as a ferry crossing and was twice destroyed by flood before moving to higher ground. Orange Cove is a small city of mostly agricultural workers supporting the surrounding citrus orchards. Climbing through the Kern River Valley into the Sierra Nevadas east of Bakersfield. Contents
