Imperial Sand Dunes to Organ Pipe NM: We could understand the appeal of endless off-road opportunities, open spaces and freedom to go anywhere your vehicle could take you, but as we drove, little of the area remained untracked. Even so, the dunes presented  spectacular views. Yuma could be any mid-sized service center on a main route, fast food outlets, motels, liquor stores, and money lenders dominated the through route. Road blocks and distinctive white and green Border Patrol vehicles became common features of the landscape, increasingly so as we approached the border.
Ahh! the smell of exhaust and the roar of two-stroke engines in the morning A never ending caravan of transport Do they have time to stop to enjoy this view? The Chocolate Mountains between El Centro and Yuma Yuma looked prosperous but unemployment was high. Sign of the times?
